Dee tells his story: "In December of 1998 I was 66 years of age; 6’4” tall, and weighed 285 pounds (about 60 pounds overweight). My cholesterol level was 227 MG/DL. I was a diabetic and had injected myself with over 5,840 shots of insulin during the past seven years. My hands and feet were going numb; eyesight was failing; I had high blood pressure, and a multitude of minor ailments. Today, at 75 I weigh 220 pounds. My cholesterol is 130 MG/DL; I no longer suffer from diabetes; feeling has returned to my hands and feet; I don’t need glasses, and my blood pressure is normal." WHAT HAPPENED?
"It’s been said, 'The choices we make dictate the lives we live.' This is particularly true if we are talking about health. The diseases I suffered from – diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and many others – were what I call 'Life Style' diseases. In my case, I was careless in what I chose to eat and I refused to exercise daily, so naturally I became obese. In December of 1998 I was not expected to live. I decided to take charge of my life, change my life style, and accept personal responsibility for my health and well being. When that happened, the symptoms I suffered from simply went away."
"First, I started exercising. Walking proved to be the best exercise for me because I could walk wherever I happened to be and whenever was most convenient for me. At first, I could only walk a few hundred yards without resting. However, I gradually increased the distance to several miles. Now I walk seven days a week, in good weather or bad, and find that walking gives me a wonderful opportunity to think and plan. I recommend it to all."
"Secondly, I studied nutrition. While I was certainly no expert, I developed a program that works for me. I experimented with rolled oats over a period of time, but found that oats did not provide the staying power necessary to get me through the morning, nor could I find any other cereal that would − hence, the eventual development of Dee’s Cereal. This cereal keeps me going from early morning until noon and has become an essential part of my nutrition program. It was not until I finally had breakfast under control that I was able to move on in the planning of other meals. Over the next nine months, exercise and proper nutrition solved my weight problem. I lost 60 pounds and never gained it back. What a difference that has made in my life."
